Recorded over three days of the 9th July, and the 6th and 7th August 2020, I began as an experiment with three good friends that turned into a beautiful musical experience. My friend Stefan Nowak offered me an opportunity to record on his lovely Baldwin piano at his studio, so always searching for an interesting and challenging approach I thought it might be a good mind stretching puzzle playing in a trio format without a bass player. I loved Paul Bley's trio when I was younger and was curious as to how it might feel. This is the result. Having so much space in the low end of the harmony allowed me the freedom to play completely differently to how I might have played with a bass player.
